2018 Five-Petalled Rose Celebrations will begin on Friday, June 22 and ends on Sunday, June 24. This is a very popular event and we expect to be fully booked for this date soon so better don’t wait too long.
The tradition of Český Krumlov celebrations dates back to 1909 when a historical festivity took place to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the town. The noble Schwarzenberg family were guests of honour. The first event named the Five-petalled Rose Celebrations took place in 1968 at the behest of Mr. Antonín Zwiefelhofer, director at the Českokrumlovská scéna theatre and his colleagues from the local theatre. The event took place for three consecutive years and became quite popular. The emerging tradition of celebrating the five-petalled rose, symbol of the noble House of Rosenberg, was however cut short by the communist authorities as it was perceived to be an undesirable tribute to the feudalist regime. The Five-petalled Rose Celebrations were renewed in 1990, symbolizing the regained freedom and its tradition continues to this day.
THIS YEAR´S TOPIC: This year we will remember an important event that took place in 1587 AD – the wedding of William of Rosenberg and Polyxena of Pernštejn. Guests from near and far will gather in Krumlov to take part in the wedding feast at the Brewery Gardens and several other places around the town together with our visitors. There will be guests arriving from Italy, Greece, Germany, Austria but also from the distant New World. Exquisite gifts will be presented to our sovereign, for example a genuine Italian gondola that will sail the Vltava river waters. Historical processions will pass through the town and a rich schedule of events across ten stages the town awaits all wedding guests.
